Auto Racing is more than a sport for many people - to many; it is a way of life. & while many are into the culture and subcultures of all form of racing for the excitement and the sportsmanship, there are those who might argue that many are attracted to the risks associated with the industry - many who are there to witness car crashes.
A few months ago, a Tennesee Drag Racing accident saw the death of seven people after a drag racing car went out of control and careened into a crowd of spectators. It was a tragedy that unfortunately, goes with the territory of racing.
After that occurred, I went and had a look into some of the worst car accidents in the history of motorsport...
The Worst Auto Racing Tragedy In History
The 1955 Le Mans Disaster is considered to be the worst in history - simply from the sheer number of fatalities. A vehicle in the race crashed and flew into the audience killing 82 spectators, as well as the driver. During the accident, the fuel tank ruptured, which created a fire that was further fueled by the magnesium content of the car's structure.

Possibly the Worst Rally Corner?
While digging around for information and footage of car crashes in motorsports, I stumbled across this video at YouTube in which the submitter claims was shot at a scene that could be considered either the worst rally car racing corner, or the best spectator spot. While the consistency of the accidents begins to look humorous, one spectator begins to chant AYI-YI-YI over and over in an annoying fashion.
