Chrysalis
If you look into the mirror
& the reflection in my eyes
You’ll see a token benchmark
Of a human falling from grace
But the world at large cannot see it
It’s disguised from all they are
The exterior is just a crust now
A cocoon for pain and loss
Locked away in a small household
A disguise for a modern cage
I cannot let the world see me
I cannot let them feel my rage
Drowning into countless slumbers
Drowning into endless grief
Isolated in a solitary prison
A cocoon for pain and loss
Inside
Nobody can touch my pain
Inside
Nobody can use my loss
Inside
Nobody can see my shame
Inside
Nobody can take this cross
Until I break on through
The Chrysalis
Arising from the agony
Of sleep that’s laced with the nightmares
I’m stepping forth into this new world
& breaking out of what I’ve done
The isolation kills me
I’ve nothing left to lose
I’ll do it in my own way now
With inherited determination
There’s nothing now that can be
Done by you
