Invading Australia
The trip to Australia for our family is less than a week away, and I cannot be more stressed out right now. Believe it or not, the planning for this trip has become a little bit of a strain, and I think the reason is because we were having to plan in weeks for a trip that usually takes months to prepare – as well as taking into account that we’re preparing such a journey for a total of five people, as opposed to one or two.
We are so blessed to have this opportunity to travel back home and catch up with my mother. It really is truly what I said it is: a blessing. With her dealing with cancer, she doesn’t have a great deal of time left on the planet with us all, and we are all going to make the most of what time we DO have together.
Having to deal with the issue of cancer from half a planet away makes you feel pretty damn helpless, and it’s certainly put a lot of things in perspective for me over the last year or so. It strengthens my belief of not wasting time or life – life is precious and short, so grab it by the balls and make something of it. Every day is a good day if it’s above the ground, and if it’s a good day – don’t waste it – live for it, and make it worth your while.
The kids – Randy, Jeff, and Kalyn – are all excited about the trip. We’ve been counting down the days, and they cannot wait to head over to Perth to see their Nana Margaret. It’s certainly going to be an adventure for us all.
But between now and then, it will be a lot of sleepless prep. For example, next week, I am working 11+ hour days to fit my 40 hour week day into 3 and half days. That was the best arrangement we could make for that week. On top of that, we’ll have the general planning and prep and cleaning and packing needed for such a trip… so there’s going to be a lot of late nights and early mornings, and that’s all cool… because in the end I’ll just sleep my fat arse off on the plane.
