To Blog A TrukstoP
G’day all, and welcome to the first blog post here at TheTrukstoP.com. I guess it has taken me long enough to do something like this here at the site, so it’s probably about time.
Blogs have become somewhat of an online trend in the last year or so. They’ve always been around, but it seems now that everyone and their pet rock are posting their own blogs. Blog this, blog that, it just blogs the mind. Well, now it’s time for this bloggertrukker to blog the blog out your bloghole.
Usually, from what I’ve seen around the net, blogs tend to be like journal entries or speculative thoughts. While TrukbloG will most likely touch on those things as well, I’d like to think of this page as more of an editorial for TheTrukstoP.com.
How so? Because editors in today’s society use their forum for ranting and raving about whatever has pissed them off lately. Sometimes, it’s a forum for them to promote their own business investments (don’t go there, Greg, you don’t want to go pissing off journalists… ah fuck ‘em). So, it’ll probably swing this way and that as the articles go up here.
I don’t know exactly whether or not people will actually click on the TrukbloG link, and if they do, whether or not they’d get past the first couple of paragraphs of my dribble. If they don’t, I really don’t care. If they do, well, I certainly appreciate your time.
There’s been a few things that have happened over the last few months, both in the world in general, and in personal experiences of my own, that this particular idea for the site has been simmering in the back of my mind and in the base of my stomach for some time now. Now, that brewing has created an accumulated bile of thoughts, anger, opinions, ideas and so on… and it feels right to start a blog page here at TheTrukstoP.com. Let the bile spew forth! Come, dance merrily in the spray of my blog!
Why should I waste my time by doing this? Because the Internet is the best form of freedom of speech than what any government could offer. Damn, I remember the days you could use a college computer to do assignments, go into chatrooms and look up porn sites without anyone batting an eyelid – all at the same time! Times, of course, have changed, but it’s still very true that online you have the greatest freedom of speech. You can say anything you want, whether it annoys the shit out of someone or not.
I started TheTrukstoP.com back in 1998, as a small, one-page, general links page. As you can see, it has evolved beyond my expectations since then. While it was initially a means by which I could tinker with and learn HTML, it has become a hosting page for all of the online projects I have taken on over the last 6 years. Anything I’ve had a shot at doing on the Internet, got noted here at my site in the form of an update.
I guess the earliest blog-like article I ever did was for my Star Wars site, Shadow of the Sith. Back in 2000, while the population of online Star Wars nerds waited for any form of news on Episode II (that includes myself in that label – oh and by the way, I’ll be dealing with you guys in a TrukbloG at a later date!), there was a strong speculation movement amongst the fans. When Shadow of the Sith was revamped with the redesign of TheTrukstoP.com in 2001, it seemed fitting that there’d be a speculation (blog) page there as well. The title of the page? Sith Happens. Very fitting indeed. Only a sci-fi nerd could come up with such a title – and I suppose that works, as people who have seen me personally have noted that I look very much like the comic-book store guy from the Simpsons.
However, the first real blog I ever posted was my reaction to the horrific attacks on September 11, 2001. The event affected me (and my family and friends) profoundly at the time, even though I was half a world away when it all happened. In the days that followed 9/11, I felt compelled to say something about it at TheTrukstoP.com. I questioned myself, Was it right to do this? Should I really put my own thoughts on this amongst my site updates? In the end, I decided it was the right thing to do. The original few posts I made about September 11 can be found here.
The world changed with 9/11, and it has changed further in the years since… and mostly for the worse I fear. I watch current events and politics and world leaders with a festering feeling of anger and despair, and see how the world is turning with the incidents in Iraq, with the fear of terrorism, and so on. I see a president and a prime minister (need you ask who) struggle to gather the intelligence to string two sentences together. I see the television networks deliver us crap like Outback Jack. I see all the spam e-mails encouraging me to try Viagra pills that are nothing more than fakes that couldn’t even give Gene Simmons an erection. Or George W. Bush as well. Ugh… there’s a scary thought. It all just contributes to that simmering bile I spoke of. But as far as world events are concerned, we live in a new world, and I again feel like I did in those days following September 11: compelled to say something about it.
While I am on that issue, I’d just like to stress that the majority of TrukbloG posts are going to be my opinions. There will be some facts here and there, but like I said, this page is just my opportunity to have my say about what’s going on.
I think that if I didn’t do that, it would be very complacent on my part. If you’re angry about something happening around you, then say something. The world is an imperfect place, and if you’re not noticing the shit that’s going down in front of you, then you’re falling down on the job. If you still can’t see that after someone calls you on it, you must be watching a television network like VH1 – or even more blinding: Fox News Channel.
This may all come across as grim doom and gloom. There are some good things happening around us. I am aware of that. They might even get a mention here and there in these posts. I don’t know, we’ll just see where the ride takes me. But as most of you know, it’s the tragedy and negativity around us that generate the most feeling and emotion (just ask Henry Rollins or Phil Anselmo… no, even better – read their lyrics) and it’s usually those things that generate the most discussion about what’s right and what’s wrong with the world, whether it be about the world at large, or elements of our personal lives.
Whatever the case may be, this page will become my general thoughts on whatever I choose to talk about. I’m not going to be like one of those over-dedicated “bloggers” that make posts every day. That’s pointless. I’ll make these posts whenever I feel like it. Besides, I’m annoying enough as it is, and I’m sure you wouldn’t want to put up with my crap everday…. all of you are pretty smart enough to know how much of a fucker I really am.
vv You might find you thoroughly disagree with me about some of the topics I bring up. To you, I say, that’s great. Post your reactions at our board, and we can go head to head on the issue. There’s nothing more stimulating than a good discussion about controversy. You’re more than welcome to have your say – I’m not going to stop you.
So, if you’ve gotten this far into this first introductory blog, I salute you. You’re probably wondering what kinds of topics I am going to be bringing up over the coming few days, weeks, months, whenever… Don’t be expecting anything about how much I miss Vegemite… but the topics will most likely taste just as sharp. & don’t be expecting anything about pleasuring one’s self with toothbrushes. The next Blog is most likely going to be about Michael Moore and his film Fahrenheit 9/11, simply because I saw it recently and it generated such a fuelled anger within me, that it’ll probably make for a good start.
Other topics? I’ll be bringing up my thoughts on terrorism, perhaps a reflection on September 11, the run-up to the US and Aussie elections. I’ll put up some posts about cancer, dealing with immigration issues, the day-to-day depressing difficulties of finding a job… things that have affected me personally over the last 12 months or so. There’ll be other topics that come up, I’m sure. Perhaps you might want me to dribble on about some topic here. If so, let me know.
That’s what you can expect in The TrukbloG. If you’ve kept up with me thus far and read what I’ve written all this way, thank you very much. Time for me to go and see where my bourbon has been hidden. See you in the next blog!
